Does tap dancing damage wooden floors?
Thousands of foot strikes can result in injury if the dancer is not protected by a floating wood sub-floor that dissipates energy. That floating wood sub-floor will also amplify the sound no matter what the top surface is. Adult or child tap dancers can inflict a lot of damage on a floor surface.
Is tap dancing hard on the knees?
Tap dancers are particularly susceptible to injuries in the kneecap, due to movements that require holding the hip and knee in a static position while the feet move quickly. This can create tightness in the quad and muscles attached to the IT band, which may lead to compression of the kneecap.
